Nopales, or tender cactus, are integral to Mexican cuisine and are enjoyed as part of countless recipes and dishes. They are popular for their low calorie, high nutrient content – being high in fibre and rich in a range of vitamins.
Nopales cactus leaves are somewhat similar to asparagus or green beans, with a slight hint of lemon. Their unique flavour makes them an ideal part of so many different recipes including in soups, salads and even as a snack on their own. They are crunchy and refreshing.
These pickled nopales can be eaten on their own or are commonly added to salads for a slightly tart, refreshing addition.
